Leadership is something that this country is really pushing for. We have been learning about it for the last couple of months and it seems like everyone wants the younger generation to be leaders. But a question that I have been wondering is, is this country pushing for the older generations to become leaders? While researching for a scholarly article on leadership I came across the one linked above. It talks about how in regular college courses teachers are pushing for more and more education. This specific article talks about a computer programming class that is pushing for more leadership. I personally think this is a great idea, because when you are going to college you are learning how to do a profession. But who is going to get hired? A person with no leadership skills? Or a person with a little leadership skills. I guess what I am trying to get at is a person that shows even a little bit of leadership is going to get hired over someone that shows no leadership. Honestly when I go to college I want to continue to learn about leadership to make myself a better person. I think that they should teach courses specifically on leadership instead of taking time out of other classes but I think it should be strongly taught to all kids. If this continues to happen this nation will be a better place, our working people will be better people and maybe people won’t think differently about our country.

Man pleads guilty to DWI in La-Z-Boy
A 63 year old man left the bar after drinking 8 or 9 beers. His blood alcohol level was .29 the article says that, that was 3 times over the legal limit. He left the bar and hopped onto his la-z-boy recliner and left. The article says that he put a lawnmower engine into it. The 63 year old man crashed into a parked car. you can see a picture of the recliner her --> http://msnbcmedia4.msn.com/j/MSNBC/Components/Photo/_new/DSCI0032.widec.jpg
The reason this is news is because its really funny. The category it would be under is Oddity. The 63 year old man is getting in trouble and probation because he was driving with a .29 blood alcohol level. Its going to affect him and his la-z-boy recliner/mower. Its not going to affect the rest of the world. But it might affect the lady that he ran into.
My opinion on this article is clear. He should get in trouble because he is operating a vehicle while intoxicated. If they let him go then everyone's going to do it and its not going to be a good thing. If a bunch of drunk people are driving la-z-boys around. He is lucky that all that happened is that he ran into a parked car.

4th
1. My author is very good at taking normal people off the streets and explaining how they are leaders. He would take a person working at a fast food restaurant and show how they are a leader. It is very interesting and makes you want to read more and more.
2. One person that I think shows great leadership skills that might be presented in my book would be that of a teacher. Teachers don't get as much respect as I think they deserve. They make a difference in a lot of peoples lives and people just kind of look at it as something they have to do. I think that coming to this place everyday and helping change peoples lives is a very big leadership position. Weather you think it or not.
3. I think that it is important to have leadership skills because if you didn't you would be a waste of space. I think that if everyone acted as a leader this country would be A LOT different. I think that they way things are ran would be a lot different and I think that people would look at our country in a different way.

1. Reactions to the latest pages you have read. What have you found interesting so far? What do you agree/disagree with?
2. What leadership traits has the subject of your book shown? Or what leadership traits has your author talked about being important? Use specific examples from the book including page number.
3. Talk about a specific quote or passage that has s6
4. Give me an example of a time that you had to make an ethical decision. What was the situation? Who (no names necessary) was involved? What was the ethical dilemma? Ultimately what did you decide to do and why?
1. The more I read the more interesting it gets. I like how he give different ways to keep ourselves motivated. There's not very much that I disagree with in this book because he has lots of interesting points.
2. My author talks about many many different traits to leadership. That is why I like the way he writes. He doesn't just take one trait and talk about it but all of the traits you need and how they flow together. For instance he talks about motivation. He gives 8 different ways to stay motivated weather or not you have a title. 1. Make time to reflect 2. Remember to dream 3.Mirror those who are successful around you. 4. Retreat to advance 5.Mentor someone else 6. Enjoy the journey 7. Live like a victor, not a victim 8. Search for the pony.
3. One of my favorite passages in the book is when Sanborn talks about obligation or and opportunity. He talks about when most leaders answer there phone they think of it as an obligation. Sanborn said that he posted a note above his phone that says Opportunity not obligation.
4. One time that I had to make an ethical decision was about two weeks ago. I had not studied for a test and it was one of the biggest tests of the year for biology. I had to make the decision weather to cheat or to just be straight forward and take the test. Of course I didn't cheat and I failed the test. In the long run it was worth it because some people got caught cheating on the test.

To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts
1. So far this book is really good and very interesting. The author gives a lot of examples when he explains something. Mostly in the book he talks about how having a title doesn't necessarily make you a leader. I like how when he explains something he doesn't use an everyday example, he uses one that has happened in his own life and connects to it.
2. No my views have not changed on this book.
3. Yes there was one time when my youth pastor had to go to a meeting and we were supposed to be having band practice but it was canceled. So I decided I would get all the band members together and practice. It was a good idea because that was one more practice we had under our belt.
4. In the book he talks about when parents are asked what they want for their kids most of them say to be happy. Mark talks about how this is not supposed to be what we want for our kids. To be a leader you have to put another needs above yours to achieve what you want. Its about self sacrifice. He says that these might not make us happy in the short term he quotes the pastor of Mosaic Church in Los Angeles he says "We spend so much time worrying about our kids being good-not breaking the rules, getting into trouble, and basically behaving-that we often forget to invite them to be great." I agree with this. Being good is not great enough for a leader. When you are a leader you want better than best. I think you can tie this into any leadership situation because when you are trying to accomplish whatever you need to lean more towards more towards greatness rather than just being good.

How Anyone, Anywhere, can make a positive difference
This book is so far so good. Mark Sanborn knows what he is talking about when it comes to leadership and he adds a little bit of comedy. I agree with Sanborn when he says "The longer the title the less important the job." But I also disagree with him. I think that the importance of the job shouldn't matter on the title but rather their actions. He talks about this leader at this school that plays many roles. She is a counselor, nurse, teacher aid, and has many more roles. But the biggest role she has that the kids gave her is "Mom". She has very good office skills and makes a difference to all of the kids. Even parents come to her with their everyday problems. This can tell you that even if you don't work in a multimillion dollar company you can still be a leader.
